Scratches no match for Nissan's new car paint

Nissan's new "Scratch Guard Coat" lasts for three years, and will "heal" scratches between one day and one week, depending on how bad the scratch is, and the outdoor temperature.

I'd have to guess that the paint has some paint "capsules" in it that can bleed into a scratch when ruptured, though that wouldn't explain why it could take a week to restore the paint. I'm interested to see how they've done it.

Nissan's “Scratch Guard Coat” is based on an elastic resin that not only protects the paint under the clearcoat, but also slowly repairs scratches in the clear surface - gradually returning to its original unscratched state in anywhere from a day to a week, depending on temperature and the depth of the scratch.
