ABC wants to kill DVR ad-skipping - AdJab

Yet another example of companies that are desperately trying to protect an outdated business model rather than innovating their way out of the problem. When will they get it?

ABC is trying to convince DVR manufacturers to support a feature that would cancel your fast-forward or 30-second skip button. After all, if you're not watching their ads, the networks can't demand as much money from the advertisers, can they?

What's baffling is that product placement is so much more effective, and something ABC has proven to be rather adept at with shows like Alias. What about offering more "sponsored" shows, so that there is less incentive for people to reach for that remote (or just keep it in hand, like I do)?

Hell, do it right, and you can charge MORE for ads. Why? Because when they've been recorded, they're likely going to get watched SEVERAL times by the viewer.

Of course, there's another answer to the problem. How about making the ads entertaining again?

Some products just can't be placed I think.

Also, even before DVR's people often change the channel during commercials. With product placement, that's not an issue.
