The Broadcast Flag is Back!
I'm not entirely sure why our government insists that it needs to protect content that is give away for free from being stolen, but that's exactly what Senator Stevens (no relation, I swear) is trying to do by adding an amendment to a Net Neutrality bill that would reinstate the formerly defeated Broadcast Flag.
OK, I get it. If you can download shows on the internet, you can skip commercials, and that's how the networks make their money. But why are we going to allow our elected officials to continue subsidizing a flawed business plan by giving these already massive media conglomerates control over the devices in our homes?
Commercials just don't work anymore. Get over it. Start looking more into product placement, sponsored shows ... you know, the stuff that always worked. Then get smart, and USE the internet to get more of your content seen, and thus, more revenue.
Quite frankly, with several networks offering free downloads of their shows over the internet now, I'm not entirely sure why this is even relevant.
