Tech, Hollywood heavyweights create content coalition | CNET News.com

So, apparently the top content providers want to make their content more secure so that it can't be pirated in home networks. Memo to Hollywood ... it's not PIRACY when it's on a home network, it's called FAIR USE. If I want to save myself the convenience of having to find where I put my DVD of Armageddon (I'm a sucker for Michael Bay, even if he is a hack), and then figure out what room I want to watch it in, by ripping the DVD to a server in my home, and watching it on any device in my home, I should be able to do so. As a matter of fact, Congress and the court system have agreed several times over.

Whatever happened to "the customer is always right". Why does it take me 15 minutes to open a DVD, CD, or electronic device ... just because the manufacturers have decided to brand me a thief before I've even walked into the store? When are we going to find a way to tell these corporate giants to stop treating thier revenue stream this way?
