HalfLife 2 - It's Almost Done.

coverHot on the heels of the recent "gone gold" announcement for DOOM 3 and the resulting benchmark fireworks, Gabe Newell over at Valve Software had this to say regarding HalfLife 2 ...

Right now we are looking at our bug numbers. Each day you fix some bugs and you find some new bugs. The net number tells you how quickly you will get to zero. At our current rate of find/fix bugs, we'll be down to zero bugs in 16 days.

It's worth noting that this was said on Thursday, three days ago, so we should be expecting a Gold announcement just about the same day that DOOM 3 is out in stores. Wow, it's almost like they planned it ...

To top that off, they are going to offer the Counterstrike: Source beta to anyone with a HalfLife 2 coupon from ATI, or owners of Counterstrike: Condition Zero. Source is the engine that powers HalfLife 2, and there has been speculation that Counterstrike: Source will be included with HalfLife 2 gratis. This beta announcement is only serving to further fuel that speculation.

In other news, Steam, Valve's online content delivery system crashed today. Again.
