Battlestar Galactica Webisodes Start ... NOW
If if gives you any idea how important (and popular) SciFi thinks that the Battlestar Galactica (BSG) webisodes are going to be, when you go straight to SciFi.com, it's the first thing you see. You actually have to make another click (on a link at the bottom of the page that I couldn't even see at first) before you can get to the real SciFi homepage.
I'm not sure what makes BSG so popular, but I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that they don't throw a lot of technobabble at you, like Star Trek would do. Any show that lovingly refers to the Cylons (the race of robotic beings that rose up against their human masters) as "toasters" clearly has their priorities right.
I tried watching an episode of the original Battlestar Galactica a month or so back, and I couldn't even begin to tell you what the episode was about. The characters seemed lifeless, and the plot convoluted. BSG, on the other hand, does a great job of building up each character, and carefully clueing new watchers in on why certain relationships are strained or otherwise important.
The webisodes are just a few minutes each, and when put together will basically be a single episode between Season 2 (which ended with the Humans falling under Cylon rule), and Season 3, which will presumably begin anew the war against the toasters. Here's what I don't understand, though ... why would SciFi not release this to Microsoft as an Xbox Live Marketplace video? The BSG "The Story Up to Now" video was nice, though very low res and muddy. Why not release these clips in high-res to really start gathering momentum?
