PAX is Fin

PAX is officially over, and overall, the show went out on a great note. The Omegathon Finals are always a blast to watch, and I swear ... you have never heard anything like 17,000 people cheering every time a single line is completed in Tetris, or jeering when you royally fuck one up. Great stuff.

A great story came out of the Omegathon as well. Last year's second-place contestant was given an automatic pass into the Omegathon this year, as is customary for the event. He made it to the finals again, but this year, managed to win the entire thing, two games of Tetris to none. Congratulations, Leroy!

I was chatting with the behind-the-scenes force of Penny-Arcade, Robert Khoo, who told me that the moment E3 was officially cancelled, they started getting requests from companies wanting to exhibit at PAX. While this year was booked solid, the move to the Washington State Convention Center will more than double the amount of space available for the show, going from 70,000 sq. ft. to a staggering 170,000 sq ft. PAX will officially become the biggest gaming exposition in North America, and it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

Tomorrow, I'll finish things off by posting some pictures to my Flickr site, so stay tuned for that.

Leeeeeeroy!

I'm dying to know whether Sony will be at PAX 2007. Someone should really tell them about the "Sony sucks" chants on Saturday night, not to mention the total absence of PSPs in the hands of attendees.
