Wii to launch October 2nd? Or November 6?
Those cheeky monkeys at Nintendo are at it again. How rude of them to tease us so. I blame the Seattle heat.
The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wii™ home video game system. But that's not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two.
Nintendo goes on to list the games being released, but that's not what this is about. No, this is about Wii. Nintendo has previously said that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii will be released day and date with the GameCube version. So look what they go and do then ...
And, for Nintendo GameCube™ owners, The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess will be available for you this fall. An enhanced version also will be a launch title for Wii. That will all happen on … Oh look, we're out of space.
That means we're looking at Fal, so we know its Octover/November. OK, so looking at the release list, the website Gaming Target comes up with the following analysis:
The fourth quarter begins on October 1. Now look at the list. At least one game is released every Monday in the fourth quarter except for the following dates: October 2, November 20 and November 27. November 27 is after Black Friday, so it's out. November 20 is after the launch of the PS3, so that's out too. That leaves us with October 2. The Wii will launch on October 2.
Interesting sleuthing. Could it be? Personally, I'm not sure that Nintendo wouldn't release Wii the same day as another game was being released, so I'm not convinced that the clue is there. I'm also not convinced that it has to be on a Monday. I do agree that they're launching before November 20, which still gives a fair amount of leeway to finish the launch titles. Looking at the list, I see that there are two dates with two games launching .. October 30, and November 6. Either date looks good to me, both have games that will bring people into stores (Pokémon on Oct. 30, Final Fantasy V on Nov. 6). Personally, I think they'd go with November 6th, just for the extra time to get games ready.
