King's Quest IX Lives ... Sort Of ...

In what comes as a complete surprise, the King's Quest IX project has been given a second chance at life after a last-minute deal was struck with Vivendi, who's cease and desist order had pretty much guaranteed that we'd never see this work of love and passion again.

Of course, every cloud has a silver lining, but in this case, it's the dark center that might be of concern. According to the KQIX page, it doesn't look like this will be a King's Quest game any more. The title, which was formerly "King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining" is now simply titled "The Silver Lining".

They're also careful to say that the game is "based on characters form Sierra Entertainment's 'King's Quest' series," but not that the game would have those characters.

At least in our hearts, we'll all know the truth. Hopefully the spirit of the King's Quest games won't be lost in the litigation.

The only thing different about the game will be the title. It will still have all the characters we know and love, such as King Graham.
