kevinrose: my basic blog: Apple's Big Announcement

So apparently Apple's big annoucements on Wednesday are going to be pretty underwhelming. The "ROKR" is finally coming out, and is Cingular exclusive for the time being. Great, but the 512MB limit is going to keep this from becoming my new phone ... I could get a better phone with more storage pretty easily.

The other announcement is a 2GB iPod called the "Nano". Smaller in every way than the iPod mini, but has a color screen. What's the point? I can understand having a high-end (iPod), middle-ground (iPod mini) and low-end (iPod Shuffle) ... but I fail to see where the Nano fits into the product mix, either on features or price. Unless this is a replacement for the iPod mini (which is probable, if Apple moves the mini platform entirely to flash), the new product just doesn't make sense.
