I Give Up ...

Interesting article that makes you reconsider whether the Red Cross is the right charity to send donations for the victims of hurricane Katrina.

OK, so never mind that this article was written by the same jackhole that also wrote that 9/11 was a government conspiracy. Never mind that while the Red Cross admittedly had money management issues during 9/11, those issues have been resolved. Never mind that the guy doesn't have any facts to back up his story ...

I'm just ready to give up on my hopes that the collective internet can ever pull thier heads out of their collective asses.

Of course the Red Cross isn't giving 100% of your money directly to this particular relief effort. It's called being responsible. Keeping a certain amount for administrative costs is reasonable ... it takes money for an organization the size of the Red Cross to run. It's also reasonable for them to hold onto a certain amount of the donations to use for other causes. People will donate when a major disaster happens, simply due to widespread media coverage. But what about the smaller crises that don't get as much media attention? They have to respond to those issues too, whether or not they're getting millions in donations.

If you want some piece of mind, the Red Cross website allows you to specify how you want the funds used. I'd recommend using the National Disaster Relief Fund. No, it won't all go to Louisiana, but it will go to people that need help, and that's what making a donation is all about.

I'm going to go back to scanning my textbooks and weeping quietly about how the IQ of the Internet is apparently 47.

THat article IS COMPLETE CRAP i've been busting my ass for the last week volunteering 13-15 hour shifts a day to help these victims at a church with the red cross and all the clothes and toys and other material things are definitly going to families. 100% of donations that are material and gift cards are going to families... sure maybe a small percentage of cash donations aren't but c'mon!
