More console news ...

Microsoft blew their wad early, but hopefully, having some playable titles on the show floor should revitalize interest.

Nintendo is walking back word of using standard DVD discs, now using the phrase "12cm discs". Looks like DVD playback is out which, while being disappointing, fits with Nintendo's "only games" philosophy.

Sony is starting to leak a bit ... a new ad campaign has been spotted. Playstation controller symbols with the taglines "Change the Gam3" and "Welcome Chang3". The font used for the 3 is the same as the PS2/PSP font. The Circle, Triangle, X, Square controller icons are fading away and cut in half as well, which people are speculating is a hint at a new controller to replace the long-in-the-tooth DualShock series. Or it could just be that Sony knows that the symbols are so ubiquitous now, they don't even need to use them in their entirety.

Here's that PS3 ad. Posted by Hello

I'm hearing rumors that Sony and Apple are collaborating on some things, possibly to include some iPod/iTunes functionality in the PS3. Not too surprising, given that Microsoft has stated that you'll be able to hook your iPod up to the Xbox 360.

I'm flying out to Los Angeles on Monday for the show, and I'll be able to blog anything I see right from my phone, so stay tuned.
