Free iPod?!

Final Update: I did it!  Thanks to all of you that helped out.  This FreeiPods.com link now goes to Doug, one of the moderators at GearLive trying to get an iPod for his girlfriend.  Give him a hand, would ya?

There are a lot of scams floating around on the internet, but this is one of the few that is proving to actually work, according to a lot of people. There are even reports and pictures of people who have received their iPods. There are a couple of tricks to making this work out for you in the shortest amount of time possible, so here's the skinny ...

You have to sign up, activate your account (don't use a Hotmail address, or you might not get the e-mail!), complete an "offer", then refer five friends who all complete an offer. It's pretty much like a pyramid scam, except that it's only two levels (easier to finish), and that it's pretty much referral supported on their end too. How can they afford to do this? They're betting that the people at the bottom of the pyramid don't complete the referrals needed, and they get the extra money.

The offer you pick can be critical, so I'll explain below.

When you choose which iPod you want, you are given five different colors of the 4GB iPod Mini, or the brand-new 20GB iPod. The waiting period for the Mini is 4-6 weeks. It's only 1-2 weeks for the 20GB iPod.

Second, some of the offers will credit your FreeiPods account instantly, others take more time. The ones I would recommend are either The Video Professor one (computer training ... $7 up front cost, cancel immediately and get the shipping refunded), or the PetMedsRX one ($20 purchase required). I couldn't get the Ancestry one to work for me, so I chose the Video Professor one. One of the AOL ones is 24 hours before they credit you, but it's a free trial and you have up to 45 days to cancel, which isn't bad at all. Most people are choosing that one.

Update 2: They've added Audible.com now. Nope, gone now. Wow, that was fast. Disappointing too, since Audible was the perfect offer to pick when you're getting a free audio player!

So here's a quick checklist for you:

  1. Sign up and ACTIVATE (use a good e-mail, not Hotmail. Yahoo works.)
  2. Complete an offer (AOL, Audible.com, Video Professor, and PetMedsRX are good.)
  3. Refer five people, and show them how to complete the offers.
  4. Wait for the iPod to arrive.
Anyway, the buzz around the net is that this is completely legit, and I know of at least two people who've gotten the iPods. If you use my link above to join, I'll make sure to help you find some referrals too by changing my link ... just post a comment and let me know.

Thanks to the folks at GearLive for the tip!

it's also a good idea to use a throwaway email address. these offers are for real but you do need to provide a valid email address. if you don't you may get a lot of unwanted spam.

if you alreayd have an ipod, here's an article you'll find interesting: How to Turn Your iPod into a Theatre if you don't have an ipod, check out this site totally free ipod
