Another Internet Explorer flaw found | CNET News.com

This is precisely what makes Internet Explorer so dangerous ... Microsoft chooses to get a "fix" released that addresses the symptoms, bu doesn't address the root problem. It is so easy to modify virus source code to travel a different path, this "fix" is mostly worthless.

Giving Microsoft the benefit of the doubt for the moment, it's possible (even likely) that the problem is too big to fix properly immediately, and they chose to release the "fix" for the most widespread issue while they continue to work to plug the hole correctly. The problem with that is that the fix just prompts the virus authors to get around the stopgap faster. We would have arguably been better off by them not fixing this one issue and fixing the entire problem a little faster.
