AdBlock
I've already extoled the virtues of how great FireFox is ... clean, fast, and extensible. However, it really comes into its own through extensions, extra programs that add functionality and generally improve the experience.
One such extension is AdBlock, and it's so simple as to be ingenious. It flags graphics on a webpage with an AdBlock tab, which when clicked allow you to hide that ad (or ads from a whole domain) in the future. You can even remove the ads entirely, which sometimes will give more space to read content, depending on the site design. Specifically, those pesky inline ads that break up the text will be a thing of the past.
What's nice is that you can ue wildcards to tweak how it works, as well as a host of other tweaks that improve how it works. Most important, it gives YOU the control over what you want to see and what you don't. You can allow or disallow any ads you want, or any companies/domains you want. Want to support a specific site by giving them ad revenue? You can. Want to get rid of certain annoying types of ads and allow others? You can! My favorite websites look a LOT better now.
If you're going to use Firefox, make sure you pick up this extension too. You won't regret it.
