Xbox Live Vision Camera - I Don't Get It

I mean, I get it, but I don't. Webcams work because you're usually sitting a scant couple of feet from the camera, which is normally perched on top of a monitor. The EyeToy worked because you got up off the couch to stand in front of your TV, and the camera would again, sit on top of your TV.

The Xbox Live Vision Camera ... I just can't figure it out. You're supposed to be able to see video of people, supposedly close-ups of their faces, but if people are anything like me, they'll have the camera on top of their TV, and they'll be sitting 6-8 feet away on a comfy couch. Instead of a nice, pretty close-up when you're playing with someone, what you're going to see is closer to this:

Yeah, that's a guy's DOG. (OK, so if I had an XBL Vision Camera, I'd put my dog on it too.) But notice the quality, and the blurriness, and how just as I suspected, the camera is across the room. I've seen "glamour" shots with nice bright close-ups, but the reality is going to be vastly different. I just don't anticipate this being a good experience, and that's without people being tempted to put other parts of their anatomy on the screen. I could see someone getting banned from Xbox Live for mooning the camera, and then saying, "But I didn't ... that was my elbow!"
