Sony announces price, release date for PS3 - Games - MSNBC.com

Sony just priced themselves completely out of the game at $499-$599, with a base model that will cost at least $100 than Microsoft's "top of the line" model. I say at least because if Microsoft drops the price before Sony launches, the price disparity could be even greater.

This just goes to show that Sony is really banking on their technical superiority to sell the machine. Especially since word is that the demos shown at the press conference were pretty much comparable to Xbox 360 titles. With this one move, they might have just handed this generation to Microsoft.

Nintendo, with their Blue Ocean Strategy, is pulling themselves out of that battlefield entirely and trying to change the rules of the game.
