Actually, $599-699 sounds about right. That's the problem with packing as much next-gen hardware into a box as you can ... it's going to cost you. That said, the PS3 lifespan should be fairly lengthy as a result. I just know this ... I won't be getting one unless I win MegaMillions or something.

Sony wanted to position this device as something people would lust after, and work longer hours to buy. Looks like they've also positioned it out of the reach of most people, since I don't know anyone that would work longer hours to buy a PS3.

Update: spOng is "reporting" that the final price will be closer to $499.
