CNN.com - Pentagon: 7 ex-Gitmo prisoners return to terror - Oct 18, 2004
While I'm sure that the Bush Administration will spin this as further proof that we need to continue fighting the war on terror, somehow, I can't understand why it was that we thought a simple piece of paper was going to hold a terrorist at bay, much less SEVEN of them.
Terrorists have no honor. They don't care who they kill. So why was it that we thought that any sort of pledge would be effective? This is what I don't understand. This is a war, or so President Bush would have us believe. So why are we being so haphazard in how we're treating the war and it's prisoners? Either do it all the way, or don't do it at all.
I haven't been sure of how I was going to vote, but as the days go by, I'm inching closer and closer to Kerry, if for no other reason than Presdient Bush is simply not doing what he claims to be doing. I don't want to live in perpetual fear, but this is the policy that he's preaching. OK, so if that's how we have to live, then giddy up and get's get the job done. But I don't see that happening.
Someone at school the other day said, "Well, at least Bush stands for something." That's not good enough. That's good enough for my next door neighbor, but I expect more from my President, the Commander-In-Chief, and the leader of the free world. Kerry may be a flip-flopper, but all that shows me is that he's willing to continually re-assess a situation and make the adjustments needed, instead of making a decision and sticking to it regardless of any information to the contrary.
