What's Making Your Computer Slow?

As it turns out, this study (performed by someone with far too much free time) shows that there are two major things causing computer slowdown. If you're like my father, it was the Norton Internet Security software (which came pre-bundled on Dad's computer). I removed this last week in favor of the free McAfee software that came as part of his Comcast internet subscription. I noticed his computer was a LOT faster as a result, and wasn't surprised at all when I saw this list.

In my case, well ... I'm a font whore. I have the Adobe OpenType library, and I like to have all the fonts installed and ready to go when I need them. Well, at 1000 fonds, the delays caused are the second biggest contributor to slow down. It'll certainly make me rethink how many of those fonts I need installed all the time.
