Superman Returns is a Triumph
I finally got to see Superman Returns this weekend, in IMAX 3D, and it was absolutely riveting. Not without flaws, but wholly enjoyable. Brandon Routh is an amazing successor to Christopher Reeve, at times sounding almost exactly like him, and comes without the TV baggage that Tom Welling may have had in the role.
The 3D scenes were definitely worth the extra dollar of admission, pulling you into the action without being too distracting. Although I have to say, they simply couldn't resist the typical "3D movie tricks" (things hovering in your field of view, or coming right at you). Some viewers were disappointed with the choice of at least one of the scenes, but understanding the budgetary issues (I'd heard it was a cool million per minute of footage) I can understand why each scene was chosen.
I won't get into the plot, there's plenty of spoilers online already, but I'll just say that some foreshadowing suggests that one of my favorite comic storylines of all time just might be hitting the big screen.
