Forbes.com: Tweaking Your Tech Etiquette
Following up on my "everyone's a jackhole" argument from a few days ago, Forbes.com is running this story about the way people are misuing technologies that could help streamline operations and relationships, and end up shooting their productivity in the foot.
That's right, sometimes, cultivating that personal relationship, even amongst co-workers, is more important than sharing your every unfiltered thought at the exact moment is strikes you with completed disregard for whether the other person wants to hear it right then and there.
On the flip side, of course, are the people that respond to your message only to blow you off because they're too busy. The right answer is to ignore it until you can devote your time to that message, and the person behind it. Voice mail is there for a reason, right?
The Internet and communications technologies have changed a great deal about how interact with other people, and not always for the good. Sometimes, you need to take a second and realize that there is indeed an actual human being on the other end, and perhaps they should be treated like one.
